Love is a feeling of expression. It is something which just cannot be described in words, it can only be felt. Many a times it happens that in spite of feeling for the other person, we find it hard to express. Now why does this problem arise? The reason behind such problems is just one and that is changing attitudes especially when it comes to a father-son relationship where both of them do not understand each other’s attitudes or way of thinking as a result of lack of understanding and wide generation gap which exists between the two. Yes, feelings of caring and compassion do exist but only in the minds, they do not come in the form of words, only indirect actions at times.
This poem is all about a father-son relationship and the changing attitudes of both towards one another as and when times progresses. Childhood is the best time of a person’s life where the bond which actually exists between father and son is really very strong but as and when the child grows; the bond no more remains intact.
Time plays a very vital role in changing attitudes. In the initial stages, the child is under the influence of his parents and father especially but as and when he grows, he starts having his own way of perceiving things around him. Perspectives change at this time. The point of view does not match and this leads to differences and the inability to understand one another. Now, what about the feeling of love between the two? Does it still exist? It does but as mentioned in the beginning; only within minds.
Distractions and deviations have a huge impact on a child’s life especially when he is in his teenage years. The father still plays his duty of guiding his child in spite of knowing the fact they their perspectives differ. But does the child take into consideration his father’s views at any point of time? Some do and some do not thinking that they are capable enough to take their own decisions. Most of the time they do not ending up as failures. Again father comes in at the point of time. He acts as a saviour keeping aside his ego and opinion about his son. Here the feeling of love is actually depicted not just in the form of words but even in the form of actions. Now the question which again arises at this point is, does the child come back on track and seeks to achieve his ultimate goal? Yes, if he keeps aside his ego and just goes ahead in life as per the guidance of his father then he is bound to excel in his desired field.
Yes, the child is able to understand his father and so does the father but again the problem is again that of expressing feelings for one another. Father is growing old and the child is struggling as a result of the barrier which exists in life. Father does act as a back up support but not always. The feeling: it’s there in the mind, in the form of indirect actions but not in the form of words. It’s still difficult for a child to say, I Love You pa.
Such intense is the feeling of love in between the two which is neither in the form of words not actions but exists since its impact can be felt by both at all instances.
